ConveyThis vs GTranslate: cheaper machine translation, or control over every word?

GTranslate is cheaper. On the plans we checked on 27 September 2026, every paid GTranslate plan includes unlimited words and unlimited page views, the Startup plan unlocks every language it supports for $25 a month, and the Enterprise plan adds country domains for $50 a month. If you need forty languages on a large site and raw machine translation is good enough for your readers, GTranslate will cost you a small part of what ConveyThis does.

ConveyThis is the better choice when the wording matters. It gives you a visual editor on the live page, glossary rules that keep brand and product terms consistent, translation memory that reuses your edits, team roles for translators and reviewers, and CSV/TMX import for translations you already paid for. GTranslate's paid plans include an in-context editor, but its pricing and plan-guide pages do not describe a glossary or translation memory.

Price alone will not decide it. The questions are whether customers read the translated pages before they buy, and whether you want a say in what those pages say. Below are the prices, the limits and the trade-offs, so you can decide from the facts.

The two companies price in different ways, so a simple "plan A against plan B" line-up would be unfair to both. GTranslate prices by features and languages and never counts words. ConveyThis prices by words, languages and domains. The table pairs each GTranslate plan with the ConveyThis plan a buyer would most likely compare it to.

If price decides it for you, GTranslate is cheaper on every row above except the first, where the two cost the same. A catalog of a million words in fourteen languages costs $25 or $35 a month on GTranslate and $160 on ConveyThis. If price is all you care about, you should know that before you sign up with us.

A GTranslate subscription gives you machine translation on demand. Nobody checks whether "free returns" became the right phrase in German, whether your product names were left alone, or whether the checkout page says what your lawyers approved. On ConveyThis, the extra money pays for the tools that let you make those decisions once and keep them: glossary rules, translation memory and an editor your team can share with roles. Whether that is worth the difference depends on how much of your revenue comes through translated pages.

Choose GTranslate, or stay on it, if one of these applies to you:

• You need many languages on a small budget. Every language GTranslate supports for $25 a month, with no word count, is the cheapest way we know of to run a site in dozens of languages.
• Your content changes all the time and nobody will edit the translations. News feeds, listings and user-generated content that nobody reviews in other languages gain little from an editor, and unlimited words is what you need there.
• You want your own country domains without an enterprise budget. GTranslate's Enterprise plan hosts languages on domains such as example.fr for $50 a month. ConveyThis offers second-level domains only on Extreme.
• Your site is a non-commercial project. GTranslate's free version is for personal, educational or internal use. If search visibility in other languages is not a goal, it costs nothing.

• Customers read the translated pages before they buy. A mistranslation costs money on product pages, pricing, checkout, onboarding and support content. ConveyThis lets you fix a sentence once in the visual editor, and translation memory keeps the fix.
• Your brand and product names must never be translated. Glossary rules tell ConveyThis to leave a term alone or always translate it one way, on every page and in every language.
• More than one person works on translations. Team roles let you invite translators and reviewers without giving them your account.
• You already paid for translations. ConveyThis imports CSV and TMX files on every plan, including Free, so you keep your existing human translations instead of replacing them with machine output.
• You need a language GTranslate does not list. ConveyThis supports 210 languages, and GTranslate lists 100+.
• You want to start free on a small site with indexable URLs. The ConveyThis free plan covers 5,000 words in one language, while GTranslate's free version is not indexed by search engines.

The feature rows come from each vendor's public pages on 27 September 2026. "Not published" means we could not find the feature described on GTranslate's own pages; it does not prove the feature is missing. If you depend on it, ask GTranslate before you decide.

Switching is quick because there is usually little to carry over. What you need to get right is the URL structure, so that pages Google already indexed on a paid GTranslate plan keep their addresses.

1. Write down your current language URLs. Note whether GTranslate serves your languages on subdomains (fr.example.com) or subdirectories (example.com/fr/), and whether you used translated URL slugs.
2. Create the ConveyThis project with the same structure: the same languages and the same subdomains or subfolders. Then let ConveyThis translate the site.
3. Bring any edits you made. If you can export edited translations as CSV or TMX, import them in Translation Management → CSV/TMX. If not, re-apply the few edits that matter in the visual editor.
4. Add glossary rules for brand names, product names and terms that must not change.
5. Swap the code, then check. Remove the GTranslate widget or DNS settings, install ConveyThis, and open three translated pages in a private window. If your GTranslate URLs used translated slugs that ConveyThis does not reproduce, add 301 redirects from each old URL to its new one.

Is GTranslate good for SEO?

Only on a paid plan. GTranslate says its free version uses cookies or sessions, so translated pages do not have separate URLs and are not indexed. Its paid plans give each language its own URL on a subdomain or subdirectory, and translated URL slugs start on the Business plan ($35 a month). ConveyThis serves each language on its own URL with automatic hreflang and translated meta tags.

Is GTranslate free?

GTranslate has a free version, but its site limits it to non-commercial use (personal, educational or internal testing) and it uses statistical machine translation with no indexing and no editing. Paid plans start at $12 a month for one extra language. The ConveyThis free plan includes 5,000 words in one language on one site.

Is GTranslate cheaper than ConveyThis?

Can you edit GTranslate translations?

On paid plans, yes: GTranslate lists an in-context inline editor. The free version has no editing. GTranslate's pricing and plan-guide pages do not describe a glossary or translation memory. ConveyThis includes a visual editor, glossary rules, translation memory and team roles for translators and reviewers.

How do I switch from GTranslate to ConveyThis?

Create a ConveyThis project for the same site with the same URL structure you use today, let it translate, fix key pages in the visual editor, add glossary rules for brand and product terms, then remove the GTranslate code. If you edited translations in GTranslate and can export them as CSV or TMX, ConveyThis imports those files on every plan.
