How ConveyThis works on Shopify

Install ConveyThis: AI Store Translator from the Shopify App Store, choose your languages and activate it in the theme editor. It translates what shoppers see on your storefront: product titles and descriptions, collections, navigation, theme text and text that other apps add to your pages.

You don't need to export or sync your products. ConveyThis translates your storefront as shoppers see it. When you add a product or edit a description, the new text is translated the first time someone opens that page in another language. Each word is counted once, when it is first translated.

Your edits in the ConveyThis dashboard stay in place. If you rewrite a sentence in Shopify, it is new text and gets a fresh translation, which you can review and edit like the rest.

Shopify runs the checkout and sends order emails itself, so you translate both in Shopify. The questions at the end of this page explain how.

ConveyThis or Shopify Translate & Adapt

When Translate & Adapt is enough

Shopify's own app is free, and Shopify lists no word or page-view limit for it. It translates automatically into a limited number of languages: 2 according to its App Store listing, 8 according to Shopify's Help Center. It can put each language in a folder such as /fr/ or on a subdomain. It adds hreflang tags and includes your languages in the sitemap. It can also show different content to different markets. On Shopify, ConveyThis offers language subdomains only, on the Business plan or higher. If you sell in a few languages and like editing in the Shopify admin, start with Translate & Adapt. We checked these facts on Shopify's own pages on September 28, 2026.

When ConveyThis fits better

Choose ConveyThis when translation becomes ongoing work. New text is translated the first time a page is shown. The Auto-sync in Translate & Adapt is off by default and runs once a week. Business includes automatic translation in 3 languages, and Extreme in up to 100. On paid plans, a glossary protects brand and product names; Shopify's pages don't describe a glossary for its app. On the Pro plan or higher, team roles let translators without a Shopify staff account edit translations. ConveyThis also works on WooCommerce and other websites. Translate & Adapt works on Shopify only.

Language URLs and SEO on Shopify

A subdomain for each language, from the Business plan

On the Free and Starter plans, shoppers switch language on your store's own URL, so translated pages don't get URLs of their own. For a separate URL per language, such as fr.yourstore.com, you need the Business plan or higher. You also add one CNAME record per language at your domain provider. Each language subdomain then gets hreflang tags and a translated title and meta description, so search engines can find and index each language. Language folders such as /fr/ are not available on Shopify.

Review and edit every translation

Edit on your live storefront

AI and machine translation give you a first draft in every language. Most of it reads naturally, but you should still review it. In the visual editor, you click any text on your storefront and change it. The text editor lists every translation if you prefer to work through a list. The visual editor needs a store that is open, not behind a password page.

Keep brand and product names right

On paid plans, the glossary keeps a term untranslated or always translates it the same way. Glossary rules are case-sensitive. For wording that must be exact, you can order professional translation from the text editor, priced per word. Try it on your own store first: the Free plan covers 10,000 words in 1 language, with no card details.

Shopify and WooCommerce in one account

One dashboard for both stores

Selling on Shopify and WooCommerce, or moving from one to the other? ConveyThis works on both. The Shopify app translates your Shopify store, and the ConveyThis WordPress plugin translates your WooCommerce store. Both stores can sit in one ConveyThis account. Plans for more than one website start at Pro, $64 a month, with 3 websites.

What changes on WooCommerce

The plugin translates each page as WordPress builds it, so product, category, cart and checkout pages are translated. The plugin puts each language in its own folder, such as /fr/, with no DNS change. Order emails are not translated. If you move platforms, you can export your translations and import them on the new site, as the questions below explain.

Images, switcher and visitor language

Images and switcher per language

Swap a product image, video or PDF for each language, for example a banner with English text on it. ConveyThis doesn't read text inside images. Image alt text is translated. Style the language switcher to match your theme: position, colors, flags, dropdown or popup. On the Starter plan or higher, you can send visitors to their browser's language automatically.

Common questions about Shopify translation

Does ConveyThis translate the Shopify checkout?

No. Shopify runs the checkout on its own pages, so you translate checkout text in Shopify. Add the language under Settings → Languages. Then open Online Store → Edit default theme content → Localize, fill in the Checkout and system tab and publish. ConveyThis translates your storefront up to the checkout.

Read the Shopify checkout guide.

Are Shopify order confirmation emails translated?

Not automatically. Shopify sends its emails itself, outside your storefront. To send each customer the email in the language they ordered in, add a short Liquid block to each template under Settings → Notifications.

Get the code from the email notification guide.

How much does ConveyThis cost for a Shopify store?

The Free plan costs $0 and has no time limit. It covers 10,000 words, 1 language, 1 website and 2,500 translation requests (page loads) per month. The ConveyThis branding on the switcher stays on the Free plan. Starter is $12 a month for 60,000 words in 1 language. Language subdomains need the Business plan: $24 a month for 200,000 words in 3 languages. A busy store may need a bigger plan because of its page loads, not its words. Paying yearly gives you 12 months for the price of 10.

See all plans.

What happens when I reach my word limit?
Pages that are already translated keep showing in every language. New text stays in your store's original language until you upgrade.
Can I import translations I already have?
Yes. You can export and import translations as CSV or TMX files, and there is a converter for Weglot exports. Imported translations are reused on any page of your store with exactly the same text.
