The scan has a time limit and only sees public pages, so very large sites, logged-in areas, and content loaded later by scripts can make the real number higher.

Why your word count matters for translation

Every way of translating a website is priced by the amount of text. Agencies quote per word, and website translation tools size their plans by the number of translated words. Before you compare options, you need to know how much text your site really has, and that is hard to guess: menus, footers, product descriptions, blog archives, and SEO tags all add up. The word counter crawls the public pages of your site and counts the words in each page's HTML, including meta descriptions and other SEO text that search engines read in every language. Is the website word counter free?

Yes. You can scan a website without an account. Enter the address of the site and the tool crawls its public pages and reports what it finds.

What does the word counter count?

It counts the words in the HTML of every public page it can reach: visible text plus words in meta descriptions and SEO tags, because those get translated too. It reports the words to translate, pages scanned, other language versions found, and total words on pages, with a page-by-page list you can copy or download as TXT or CSV.

Why are some pages listed as other language versions?

If your site already has translated copies, for example under /fr/ or /de/ or on fr.example.com, the counter groups them separately and leaves them out of the words to translate, because you only translate your original text once per language. You can include them with one click. A lone section such as /it/ only counts as a language when the site has other language versions too.

Why might the real number be higher?

The scan only sees public pages it can reach within a time limit, up to 1,000 pages. Pages behind a login, content loaded later by scripts, and very large sites can add words the scan does not find, so treat the result as a starting estimate.

How is the plan suggestion worked out?

ConveyThis plans are sized by translated words across all languages, so the counter multiplies the words to translate by the number of languages you enter and picks the smallest plan whose word and language limits both fit, using the same prices as the pricing page.

Does every counted word use my ConveyThis plan right away?

No. Words are only counted when a visitor switches language and translated content is shown. Pages nobody opens in another language do not use words, so the word count is the most your site can use, not what it will use on day one.
