Black Friday is no longer an American event. Shoppers in Mexico, Germany, Brazil and beyond wait for the same week of deals, and many of them will land on your store whether you planned for it or not. The question is whether they understand your offer once they get there.

You don’t need a new store or a separate campaign for every country. With three weeks to go, you can still translate the pages that matter, fix the details that confuse foreign shoppers and test the whole path to checkout. This guide gives you the 2026 sale dates by country, then a week-by-week checklist.

Buying from a store in another country is now ordinary. In DHL’s 2026 E-Commerce Trends Report, a survey of 29,000 shoppers in 29 countries, 70% of online shoppers said they buy from retailers outside their home country, and 45% do so at least once a month.

The holiday weekend follows the same pattern. On Shopify, 16% of Black Friday Cyber Monday orders in 2025 were cross-border, the same share as in 2024, according to FXC Intelligence. That is roughly one order in six coming from abroad, before the store has done anything special for those buyers.

Language decides how many of those visits turn into orders. In CSA Research’s 2020 survey of 8,709 consumers in 29 countries, 76% preferred to buy products with information in their own language, and 40% said they never buy from websites in other languages (more on that study). The 2026 sale calendar by country

Black Friday falls on 27 November 2026, but your foreign visitors may start shopping earlier, around their own local sales.

Two practical points come out of this calendar:

  • Spanish speakers in Mexico shop two weeks early. If Mexico is in your traffic, have your Spanish pages ready by 13 November, not 27 November.
  • In Germany, Black Friday is a week. Retailers there start on 23 November, so a sale that runs from 23 to 30 November lets German visitors compare and come back.

Week 1 (now): choose your languages and check your limits

1. Pick languages from your own data. Open your analytics and look at visits and orders by country over the last 90 days. The languages to add first are the ones your visitors already speak, not the biggest languages in the world. One well-chosen language beats five rushed ones.

2. Install the translation tool. On Shopify, add the ConveyThis app from the Shopify App Store. On WordPress and WooCommerce, install the ConveyThis plugin and paste your API key. Setup takes a few minutes, and your pages, products and new content are translated automatically from then on. See our guides to translating a Shopify store and building a multilingual WooCommerce store.

3. Check your word allowance before you build sale pages. Black Friday means new text: landing pages, banners, product badges, shipping notices. Every plan has a word limit. If you reach it, pages that are already translated keep working in every language, but new text stays in the original language until you upgrade. Check how much room you have left in your dashboard now, not on the morning of the sale.

4. Check your monthly page views too. Plans also include a monthly number of translated page views, and Black Friday traffic can be far above a normal week. Compare last year’s November traffic with your plan before the rush.

Week 2: translate your offers, not just your pages

Automatic translation covers your store in minutes. This week is for the parts that carry the sale, where a small mistake costs orders.

5. Rewrite your headline offers in the visual editor. Read your main banner, sale page and product badges in each language. Discount wording is short and punchy in English and often reads flat when translated word for word. In the visual editor, click any text on the live page and change it.

6. Replace banners that have text in the image. ConveyThis does not translate text inside images. If your hero banner says “40% OFF” in the picture, make one version per language and swap the image for each language. Image alt text is translated automatically. Even better for next year: put sale text in real HTML over a plain background image.

7. Keep promo codes and brand names unchanged. A code like BLACKFRIDAY40 must work exactly as typed, in every language. Check how each code appears on your translated pages in the editor. On paid plans, add codes and brand names to the glossary so they are never translated (glossary rules are case-sensitive), or exclude specific elements from translation.

8. Write dates and deadlines in words. “Ends 11/30” means 30 November in the US and nothing sensible in most of Europe, where dates are written day first. Write “ends Monday 30 November” instead, and add the time zone to any countdown or last-order deadline.

9. Translate the pages shoppers check before they pay. Shipping times, delivery cutoffs, returns and size guides decide whether a foreign shopper trusts you with an order. Make sure these pages are linked from your sale page and read well in every language.

Week 3: test checkout, emails and the full path

10. Check the cart and checkout in every language. On WooCommerce, the ConveyThis plugin translates product, category, cart and checkout pages (details here). On Shopify, the checkout’s own wording comes from Shopify’s language settings, so add the same languages there.

11. Turn on translated order emails. The order confirmation is the first message a new customer gets after paying.

  • WooCommerce: in the ConveyThis plugin (version 271.1 or newer), open the general settings and turn on “Translate WooCommerce emails into the customer’s language”. Order received, processing, completed, refunded and customer note emails are then sent in the language the customer used at checkout. Names, addresses, email addresses and order numbers are never sent for translation. Turn it on now: the plugin prepares the email templates in each language in advance, about 300 words per language, counted toward your word limit.
  • Shopify: order notifications are edited in Shopify itself. Follow our step-by-step guide to translating Shopify email notifications.

12. Place a test order in each language. On your phone, switch to each language, add a sale item to the cart, apply a promo code and go through checkout. Many holiday shoppers buy on their phones, and small screens show problems a desktop hides: long translated buttons, cut-off banners, a switcher buried in the menu.

13. Make the language switcher easy to find. Put it in the header where it shows on mobile. On the Starter plan and above, you can also redirect visitors to their browser language automatically, so a shopper from Madrid sees Spanish without looking for the switcher.

A note on search traffic

Translated pages can bring search visitors from other countries, but new pages take weeks to be found and ranked. For this Black Friday, count on traffic you control: your newsletter, ads and social posts, each pointing to the page in the shopper’s language. The pages you translate now will keep working for Christmas, January sales and next year’s Black Friday.

If you want each language on its own address for search engines (for example /es/ or es.yourstore.com), see native language subfolders for Shopify. On WordPress, the plugin creates language subfolders itself.

Frequently asked questions

Is it too late to translate my store for Black Friday? No. Installing ConveyThis takes a few minutes, and your pages are translated automatically as soon as it is running. Three weeks is enough to install, review your sale pages and test checkout. Start with one language if time is short.

Which languages should I add for Black Friday? The ones your visitors already speak. Look at visits and orders by country in your analytics and start with your largest foreign market.

Will my discount codes still work on translated pages? Codes are applied by your store, not by the translation, so they work as long as shoppers can read them correctly. Check how each code is displayed in every language, and on paid plans add them to the glossary so they are never translated.

Can I translate a store for free? Yes. The ConveyThis Free plan covers one language and 10,000 words, with no card required. Paid plans add more words, the glossary, exclusions and browser language redirect, and from the Business plan, more languages.

Does ConveyThis translate text in my banner images? No. Text inside images is not translated. Upload a separate banner for each language and ConveyThis shows the right one to each visitor. Alt text is translated automatically.
