Upgrade Your Plan: Understanding the Payment Process

This article explores whether you need to pay the full price when upgrading or downgrading your subscription. Discover the pricing details for seamless changes.

Am I charged the full price when upgrading to a higher-tier plan?

No. Since you have already paid for your current subscription, you are not charged the full amount again when upgrading your plan.

Instead, you will only be charged the difference in price between your current plan and the new plan, adjusted proportionally based on the remaining time in your current billing cycle. This is known as prorated billing.

What does “prorated” mean?

Prorating means calculating a partial charge based on how much time remains in your active subscription period.

Rather than restarting your billing cycle or charging the full new plan price immediately, the system credits the unused portion of your current plan and applies only the remaining balance toward the upgraded plan.

Example of prorated billing

For example:

  • Your current plan costs $20/month
  • The upgraded plan costs $50/month
  • You upgrade halfway through your billing cycle

Since you have already used half of your current billing period, you would only pay approximately:

($50 - $20) ÷ 2 = $15

In this case, the upgrade cost would be about $15 for the remaining half of the billing cycle.

At the beginning of your next billing cycle, your subscription would renew automatically at the full price of the new plan.
