What happens to my website’s content?
How translation works. When a visitor opens your website in another language, the ConveyThis code, plugin or app sends the text of the page to the ConveyThis API and shows the translation it returns. The original layout, images and code of your website stay as they are.
What is stored. Each text of your website and its translations are saved in your ConveyThis account, per website. A text is translated once, and after that the saved translation is used. You can edit or delete translations at any time, see How do I edit my translations?
Machine translation. New text is translated by the machine translation services we work with. Only the text to be translated is sent to them.
Translated addresses. If your translated pages have their own addresses (a sub-domain such as es.example.com or a sub-directory such as example.com/es/), they are created in one of two ways. With the WordPress plugin, your own website serves them. With other platforms, they are served through the ConveyThis proxy: it loads the page from your website, translates it and returns it to the visitor. In both cases your website stays on your own hosting.
What you can keep out. Pages and elements you exclude from translation are not translated.
Your visitors. To remember the language a visitor chose, the ConveyThis code saves it in the visitor’s own browser.
When you leave. When your account is deleted, its websites and translations are deleted with it. See How do I delete my ConveyThis account?
