The language switcher is the one part of ConveyThis your visitors actually see. It sits in the corner of every page, and until now it came in one look that you could recolour.
Today ConveyThis introduces four themes for it.
Glass, Neon, Bubble and Auto are new themes for the switcher. They’re free on every plan, including Free. Nothing changes on your site until you choose one: the switcher you have now is still there as Classic, and it’s still the default.
Glass

A frosted, translucent panel that lets your site show through. Glass works best over photography, gradients and colourful hero sections, where a solid white box would cut the picture in half. Over a plain light background it keeps the frost and switches to dark text, so the language names stay easy to read.
Neon

A dark panel with a glowing outline and the current language lit in pink. Neon is for sites that are already loud: music, gaming, nightlife, events. It’s the theme that looks like part of the design, not something added on top.
Bubble
A small round button in the corner, the way a chat button works. Tap it and the other languages pop up above it one after another, in a single column of circles.
Bubble adapts to what your switcher already shows:
- Language codes (EN, DE, FR): each circle shows the code.
- Flags: each circle shows a round flag, and the language name appears when you hover over it.
- Full names without flags: the circles become small pills with the name.
It takes up less space than any other style, which makes it a good fit for shops where the corners are already busy with a cart and a chat button. Visitors who have reduced motion turned on in their system settings get the list without the animation.
Auto
Auto looks at what’s behind the switcher and picks a light or a dark look to match. Scroll from a white section into a dark one and it changes with the page.
It’s the theme to choose if your pages mix light and dark sections, or if you simply don’t want to think about it.
Which theme fits your site
| Theme | Best for |
|---|---|
| Glass | Photography, gradients and colourful hero sections |
| Neon | Dark, bold sites: music, gaming, nightlife, events |
| Bubble | Shops with busy corners, where the switcher should take little space |
| Auto | Pages that mix light and dark sections, or when you’re not sure |
How to turn a theme on
You can pick a theme in the ConveyThis dashboard on any platform. On Shopify, WordPress and Joomla you can also pick it right where you manage the switcher today.
In the ConveyThis dashboard (any website):
- Open your site in the ConveyThis dashboard.
- Go to Switcher appearance and find Theme under Style.
- Pick Glass, Neon, Bubble or Auto, and save.
In the Shopify app: open ConveyThis in your Shopify admin, go to Widget Style, choose a theme under Theme and save.
In WordPress (plugin version 271.0 or later): go to ConveyThis in the admin menu, open the Widget style tab and pick a theme under Switcher theme.
In Joomla (version 67 or later): open the ConveyThis component, go to the Widget style tab, pick a Theme for the dropdown switcher and save.
The theme appears on your site the next time the page loads. There’s nothing to reinstall on your site.
A few things to know:
- Layouts. Glass, Neon and Auto work with the dropdown and both horizontal layouts. Bubble works with the dropdown. Themes aren’t available for the popup layout, and the dashboard greys out any layout a theme doesn’t support. In the Shopify, WordPress and Joomla settings, themes are offered for the dropdown switcher.
- Colours and corners. A theme sets its own colours and corner style, so those settings are locked while it’s on. Your own colours are kept: switch back to Classic and they return.
- Translation. Themes change only how the switcher looks. Your translations, languages, URLs and SEO settings stay the same.
Why we made this
Until now, making the switcher match your design meant changing its colours one by one or writing custom CSS. A theme does it in one click: it sets the colours, corners and shape together, and it’s built to stay readable on the background behind it.
