Website Translator Extension Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Chrome extension “Website Translator by ConveyThis” (the “extension”), published in the Chrome Web Store by Translation Cloud (ConveyThis). It does not cover the ConveyThis website translation service, which is described in the ConveyThis Privacy Policy.
Last updated: 4 November 2026.
Summary
The extension has no account, no analytics and no tracking. ConveyThis does not receive, store or sell any data from the extension. To translate, the extension sends the text you choose to translate directly from your browser to Google Translate.
What the extension sends, and when
The extension sends data only when you translate, or when you have turned on “Always translate” for a site:
- Page text. When you translate a page, the visible text of that page (in small pieces, as you scroll) is sent to Google Translate (translate.googleapis.com) and the translation is shown on the page.
- Selected text. When you translate a selection, the selected text (up to 5,000 characters) is sent to Google Translate.
- Page titles and short labels. The page title and labels such as image descriptions and input hints on the page are translated in the same way.
The extension never sends: passwords; anything you type into forms, text areas or editors; code blocks; the address (URL) of the page; your browsing history; or any information about you. The request to Google Translate is sent without cookies.
Google Translate processes this text under Google’s privacy policy.
What is stored on your device
The extension stores these settings in your Chrome browser:
- your target language, recent languages and view (translation only, or both languages);
- whether the button for selected text is shown, and whether the bar is folded;
- the sites you chose to “Always translate”;
- how many pages you have translated and whether you answered the rating request, so the request is shown at most twice.
The language and view settings use Chrome’s synced storage, so Chrome may sync them between your own devices through your Google account. The list of “Always translate” sites stays on the device. You can remove all of it by removing the extension.
Links you choose to open
If you click “Rate it”, the extension opens its page in the Chrome Web Store. If you click “Report a problem”, your email program opens a draft to [email protected] with the page’s address (without the part after ”?” or ”#”) filled in; nothing is sent until you send that email yourself. Links to conveythis.com open this website, which is covered by the ConveyThis Privacy Policy.
Use of data
Data handled by the extension is used only to translate the text you asked to translate. It is not sold, not shared for advertising, not used to decide creditworthiness or for lending, and not used for any purpose unrelated to translation. The extension’s use of this data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date.
