How ConveyThis works on Ember

Ember apps are usually localized with ember-intl, which means {{t}} keys throughout your templates and a translation file per locale. ConveyThis takes another path: add one script to the <head> of your app's index.html, redeploy, and the rendered templates are translated in the browser without changes to components or routes.

The widget follows the Ember router from one route transition to the next, and translates components that render after their data arrives from your API. Wording and glossary terms are managed in the ConveyThis dashboard. If you want language URLs that can be indexed, pick sub-domains, available from the Business plan up, and add a CNAME record for every language.

Configure Your Integration

Select JavaScript as your website technology. Enter your domain name and indicate the languages you want to translate your Ember.js app into. Click "Next" to proceed through the setup steps.

Copy and Install JavaScript Code

Copy the JavaScript code from your dashboard (replace YOUR_API_KEY with your actual key). Paste this code into your Ember.js app's index.html file in the <head> section, just before the </head> tag. See detailed integration guide.

Ember.js translation: common questions

How does ConveyThis compare with ember-intl?
ember-intl is a community addon: strings become keys rendered with the t helper, translations sit in a translations folder with one YAML or JSON file per locale, and the intl service sets the active language. It gives developers precise control and ICU message formatting. ConveyThis fits teams that would rather not convert templates to keys: it translates what the app displays, detects new strings after every deploy, and gives translators a visual editor instead of files in the repository.
Where do I paste the code in an Ember project?
Your app's index.html. In a classic Ember CLI app that is app/index.html; apps on the newer Vite-based setup keep it at the project root. Add the code copied from the dashboard between the <head> tags, ideally right before the closing tag, then build and deploy as usual. The JavaScript setup guide shows where to find the snippet.
Do route transitions and model-hook data get translated?
Yes. During a transition, Ember's router updates the URL through the History API, or through the hash if your app uses hash location, and ConveyThis picks up the change. Templates that render once a model hook's promise resolves, and components that appear later, are translated as soon as their text reaches the page.
Can non-developers fix translations without touching the Ember codebase?
Yes. Translations are kept in your ConveyThis account, not in your repository, so correcting a word in the visual editor needs no pull request and no redeploy. On the Pro plan and above you can invite colleagues to your site as Translators, Managers or Admins, each with their own sign-in and permissions, as described in adding team members.
Will my Ember app get language URLs such as fr.example.com?
On the Business plan or higher, yes. Sub-domains are the recommended option: fr.example.com and de.example.com each need one CNAME record, and your Ember app keeps being served from wherever it is hosted today. Sub-directories such as /fr/ are possible too, but the domain's A record then points at ConveyThis, so the whole site is routed through it. Either way hreflang tags are generated; see the URL structure guide.
